15SIAST Saskatoon: Precautionary drinking water advisory
Posted at 10:58AM
The City of Saskatoon has issued a precautionary drinking water advisory due to a break in a primary water main north of 42nd Street.
This advisory affects all SIAST locations in Saskatoon.
City of Saskatoon Advisory
All Saskatoon Residents West of River & SaskWater Customers North and West of City Advised -- as a Precaution -- to Boil Drinking Water Until Further Notice
For immediate release: March 15, 2013
IS13-124A break in a primary water main north of 42nd Street that occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. has been isolated, and as of 8:15 a.m. today, water service has been restored to the north end of Saskatoon via another primary water main.
Because of the water main break and loss of water service, a repair is required on the water supply system, which means there is a risk of soil or other contaminants entering the water supply. Although this risk is very low, and as a precaution, the City of Saskatoon has issued a Precautionary Drinking Water Advisory (PDWA) to all residents, businesses and public facilities located west of the South Saskatchewan River including SaskWater Customers north and west of the City.
The east side of the system in Saskatoon and customers south and east of the river are not affected. The City will be evaluating the limits of the impact and updating residents on how and when the water system will return to normal.
This means that while the City is conducting tests on the water supply system in the area, it is advised that residents boil water for drinking and any other activities where water may be ingested until all the work is completed and bacteriological tests come back negative for any contamination.
SIAST facilities can continue to operate but we ask that all students and employees follow the Saskatoon Health Region guidelines and at this time only consume water that is commercially bottled water or disinfected water.
